November 5

Morning

Take for yourself quality spices. And you shall
make from these a holy anointing oil.

It shall not be poured on man’s flesh; nor shall you make any other like it, according to its composition. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you. § One Spirit. § Diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions. § God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. § God does not give the Spirit by measure.

Of His fullness we have all received. § As the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. § He who … has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Evening

The form of this world is passing away.

All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died.

Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away. For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits. § For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. § The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am. § When they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
