Danny and I have gone to the beach each summer for 48 years in a row. We love the beach, as do our children, and now our grandchildren. As I have shared with you previously, one of the things I enjoy the most is walking the beach early in the morning, and watching the sunrise over the ocean. I love the sounds of the waves crashing and the sea gulls crying, the feel of the breeze in my face, the smell of the salt air. And I love the first glimpse of the sun’s rays coming up over the broad expanse of blue grey that is the Atlantic Ocean. From time to time, I have found a special shell: a sea urchin, a sand dollar, a conch. But this year I found something different…

One of my favorite things to do is to walk the beach early in the morning. As I did so this past week, I watched the sunrise. The thought occurred to me that sometimes God’s glory is not just in the cloud, it’s behind the dark cloud.

All of us experience storms in life. Personal storms. Relational storms. Financial storms. Physical storms. And this past week, as Jesus-followers and Bible-believers, we felt the shock of the moral storm that hit our nation as a result of the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage. The storm broke while we as a nation were still reeling from the racial storm that followed the vicious attack by Dylann Roof in the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC.
How are we to handle storms? Especially when they are not of our making.

On this day, June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court has issued a decision saying that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right. Be warned, America. A constitutional right is not the same thing as a Divine right.
What should be our response to the Supreme Court ruling as followers of Jesus?
