Be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving each other, just as in Christ God
forgave you. – Ephesians 4:32
My good friend and fellow author, Jerry Jenkins, recently wrote this article, Kinder than Kind. I want to share it with you because increasingly we live in a world of rudeness…busyness…selfishness. A world where simple kindness and thoughtfulness and consideration of others seem to be forgotten values of a bygone era.
But you and I, as Jesus followers, are not to be conformed to this world (Romans 12:2). We are to be kind.
As I have practiced simple kindness…looking the barista in the eye and giving her a smile when I thank her for my cup of coffee; handing a tip to the lady cleaning the women’s bathroom of the State Fair when there was no tip jar available, and thanking her for her work; helping an elderly man carry his plate from the buffet line to his table… I have been reminded that God raised us up with Christ…in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:6-7)
God has been kind to me. It’s my joy to pay Him back by being kind to others.
